Stilt helps international students pay off their education loans back home with a lower rate in the U.S. This results in considerable savings for international students who are declined for loans by most lenders in the U.S.
Unfortunately Stilt loans don't qualify as a student loan or as a refinanced student loan in the U.S. If a student loan is originated in a different country, that loan can't be transferred to qualify for a student loan in the U.S. The U.S. government has specific regulations on the types of loans that are considered student loans and international student loans don't qualify.
If the purpose of the loan is to pay off student loans in your home country, that may result in lower rates for borrowers but it doesn't qualify for employer payment support.
There are several employers that use third-party services like Gradifi to help manage student loan payment contributions. These companies require a certified student loan and Stilt is a "student loan servicer."
It is an important part of Stilt's mission to help immigrants with all types of loans and saving them money. At this time, we are not able to convert an international student loan to a certified student loan in the U.S. but this may change in the future as we continue to improve our services.
