A TN visa allows international workers from Canada and Mexico to enter the US and pursue employment. TN visa workers can work inside the country for a maximum period of three years. However, the visa can be renewed for another three years and there is no limit on the number of renewals. Extensions can be done by having the employers file form I-129 (petition for extension) with the USCIS or in the case of Canadians, applying at the port of entry (airports) to the US.
However, no matter how many times you renew a TN visa, you are still considered as a temporary worker in the US. You are expected to go back to your country once the visa expires. As a TN visa holder, you are not also allowed to apply for a green card or US citizenship, which means you cannot stay in the US permanently.
