No, H-4 visa holders are not allowed to work remotely for a company located in their home country. In fact, they are not allowed to work at all while staying in the US, whether remotely or physically in a work location. The rule does not apply to the location of the employer but to the location where the job is performed. Therefore, it does not matter where the company is located, it is illegal if you are doing income-generating work inside the US as an H-4 visa holder.

However, if you are an H-4 spouse, then you may be eligible to get an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). It allows the spouses of H-1B visa holders, who are either recipients of immigrant workers petition or have H-1B visa extensions for more than 6 years, to do productive work in an employment or business form. With an EAD, H-4 visa spouses are allowed to work remotely or for a company inside the US.

Note: This is not a legal advice.
