How long can I stay out of the US on an H1B Visa?

H-1B visa is approved for 3 years at a time. If you already have your visa approved, it’ll expire after 3 years and you’ve already used up 1 of those. So, you have about 2 years left on your current H-1B visa.

If you leave the country, you will not be able to come back on the expired H-1B visa. You will have to renew it while you are abroad. Also, make sure that you are paid every month by the employer. Being on H-1B visa and not being paid a government mandated monthly salary can cause problems (in visa renewals or green card application).
